Common Breeds of Cats

There are many different breeds of cats. Each breed can have distinctive personality, temperament, behavior and appearance.

Persian

One of the more popular breeds, Persians are known for their fluffy appearance and long hair, which can grow to three inches. They come in many colors, including white, black, gray, orange, or a combination.

Due to their long hair, they tend to require more work to keep well groomed. You’ll need to comb your cat’s hair daily to prevent hairballs and tangles.

Persian’s are good with children, but they don’t like to be handled roughly.

Siamese

Many cat-lovers choose the Siamese. They are known for their elegance, and high maintenance. They like to be the center of attention, often making noise and crying if you don’t pay them enough attention.

Burmese

Short-haired and soft-voiced, Burmese cats have yellow eyes and silky hair. They tend to make noise to get your attention, but can form a very trusting bond with you. They are one of the most intelligent breeds, and are well suited to children.

Egyptian

The Egyptian Mau breed originates in Egypt, where cats were treated as royalty. Elegant and muscular, the Egyptian Mau has short silky hair. This is a sensitive cat, shy but happy. You will form a close bond with this extremely loyal and affectionate cat.
